Temecula Duo Killed in Alleged Drugged-Driving Wreck to be Laid to Rest

Funeral services are set for today.

TEMECULA, CA – A woman and her toddler granddaughter killed in a hit- and-run crash on Interstate 15 in Mira Mesa caused allegedly by a driver high on drugs will be laid to rest today.

Lina Pelembergo Nebrida, 64, and Keira Magat, 2, both of Temecula, died after the sedan in which they were passengers was struck by a hit-and-run driver, then a pickup truck in southbound traffic approaching Scripps Poway Parkway in the early morning hours of Sept. 10. Keira's mother, Jasmin Magat, who was driving, and her 5-year-old sister, Keisha, were severely injured in the crash.

The family was in the process of moving to a new residence in National City at the time, authorities said.

A viewing for Nebrida and Keira was held at the El Camino Mortuary in Sorrento Valley Monday night. The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the same location.

Keira's body will be buried locally, and that of Nebrida will be flown to her home country of the Philippines, CBS 8 reported. A GoFundMe page has raised more than $13,000 to assist the family with funeral and other expenses.

The man accused of causing the crash, 31-year-old Grant Thoren, was arrested at his Vista home several hours after the accident. He remains jailed without bail due to several alleged probation violations, but has yet to be charged in connection with the crash. The case remains under review, according to the county District Attorney's Office.
