Temecula Man, 20, Dies Following SR-76 Crash

The Temecula resident was hospitalized after the collision, but died 10 days later, according to authorities.

PAUMA VALLEY, CA — A 20-year-old Temecula man who was fatally injured in a collision in Pauma Valley that also killed a motorcyclist has been publicly identified by authorities.

Chance Keakaokalani Shinn was gravely injured when the Honda Civic in which he was a passenger veered into oncoming traffic on state Route 76 and collided with a motorcyclist near Pauma Valley Road on the afternoon of July 6, according to the California Highway Patrol and the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Shinn was airlifted to a hospital, where his condition declined until his death from complications of blunt force trauma 10 days later.

The motorcyclist, 78-year-old John J. Van Wyke of Rialto, died at the scene shortly after the crash.

The 18-year-old Temecula woman behind the wheel of the Honda suffered a broken arm, authorities said.
