Temecula's Cooling Centers: As Weather Warms, Here's How To Stay Cool

Temecula has designated the Mary Phillips Senior Center as our cooling center for those in need. Here's what to know.

TEMECULA, CA—Temecula residents are invited to escape the heat and enter the cool of the Mary Phillips Senior Center, our city's designated Cool Center.

The Mary Phillips Senior Center is located at 41845 6th Street and will operate as a Cool Center until Oct. 15. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"The Cool Centers will be open to the public in affected areas when a Heat Warning is issued due to temperatures reaching 97˚F," a city spokesperson said.

Cool Centers offer resources, water, light snacks, and information sheets to educate visitors on how to prepare their homes and families for the heat, how to dress during a heatwave, how to travel safely amid heat, and how to recognize symptoms of heat exposure.

These services are critical as temperatures rise and residents need relief from hot weather.

To stay cool:

  • Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat, or use an umbrella for shade.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose clothing.
  • Slow down – rest in the shade or a cool place when possible.
  • Never leave a child, elderly, disabled person, or pet alone in a vehicle.
  • Keep shaded areas with fresh water for outdoor pets.
  • Turn on your air conditioner.
  • If you do not have an air conditioner, use a fan, and open your windows.
  • Take a cool shower or bath.
  • Visit a cool place such as the mall, library, or Senior Center.
  • Check on your neighbors or friends who are elderly, have medical conditions, or are at higher risk for problems when it is very hot.
