Denver School Of The Arts Parent Accused Of Stealing $56,000

DENVER, CO โ€“ A Denver high school parent is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the school's parent teacher student organization over several years, the Denver District Attorney's office said.

Cynthia McKee, 55, of Arvada served as the Denver School of The Arts PTSO treasurer from 2013-2016. She is accused of pocketing $56,000 in checks she wrote to herself and family members between 2014 and 2018, the DA's office said.

In May of 2018, other members of the school's PTSO contacted the Denver police with bank statements showing copies of more than 60 checks between $500-$3,000 written almost monthly between 2014 and March of 2018.

The school's PTSO manages the school's spirit wear and concessions, and collects money for special student activities and teacher appreciation events, according to the school website.

Messages to PTSO president Dianna Litvak were not immediately answered.

McKee is scheduled to appear in court May 29.
