Avon Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heat Wave

Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s for three straight days this week.

AVON, CT — With the season's first heat wave expected this week, the Town of Avon announced Wednesday afternoon the opening of the town's cooling centers.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees through the weekend, resulting in the need for cooling centers to help those who might not have access to air conditioning at home.

"Town is designating cooling centers which will be available for residents to seek relief from the heat," wrote Avon officials Wednesday.

The Avon Free Public Library is located at 281 Country Club Road and staff can be reached at 860-673-9712 with questions.

Its cooling center will be available during their regular operating hours which can be viewed HERE..

The Avon Senior Center is located at 635 West Avon Road and staff can be reached at 860-675-4355 with questions.

The cooling center will be available Wednesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Additionally, the Sycamore Hills Pools are located at 635 West Avon Road and staff can be reached at 860-409-4332 with questions.
