Greenwich Green & Clean Announces International Coastal Cleanup Event

The community is invited to join in removing harmful non-biodegradable trash from the shoreline.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Green & Clean has announced its annual International Coastal Cleanup event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Greenwich Point Park (Tod's Point).

This global event invites the community to come together to protect oceans and waterways by removing harmful non-biodegradable trash from the shoreline.

This year’s event features a special highlight: the poster created by Mia Temmoku, a sixth-grade student at the Greenwich Japanese School, has been selected as the official artwork for the event flyer.

"I believe that if we keep on participating in International Coastal Cleanup events, the sea will eventually become clear of trash," said Temmoku, a longtime cleanup volunteer, in a news release.

All collected trash will be tallied and reported to Save the Sound, which will then submit the data to the Ocean Conservancy. The Conservancy works with global partners to analyze and address pollution in the planet’s waters.

Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed on the Geenwich Green & Clean website. Walk-ins are also welcome. Participants should check in at the tables set up in the parking lot across from the first concession stand. No beach passes are required for those joining the cleanup.

Gloves and buckets will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own. This is an excellent opportunity for community members to contribute to the health of the local environment, and certificates for community service will be available.
