Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Forecast This Weekend for Ledyard

Before the rain arrives we may see some ice and or snowflakes but the big story will be the rain and wind this weekend.

The National Weather Service’s latest weekend weather forecast has it all, the chance of very light freezing rain, some snowflakes, sleet, and then a heavy driving rainstorm too.

Because of the chance for very light frozen precipitation beginning Friday evening and ending early Saturday morning the National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” and “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for northern Fairfield and northern New Haven counties.

The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday for the chance of light freezing rain, and some sleet and snow too, which can lead to icy roadways.

A “Hazardous Weather Outlook” has been issued for Hartford and Tolland counties for the same time period for the chance of icy conditions late Friday which could cause some icy conditions.

For the rest of us living on the immediate Connecticut coastline or in Middlesex and New London counties, we too may see some brief freezing drizzle and a few snowflakes, but temps are expected to remain above freezing Friday night, and no advisories have been issued for us.

Rainy Sunday in the Forecast

In reality, the big news this weekend is the fact we could be dealing with a major rain storm beginning around 3 a.m. Sunday and continuing into late Sunday afternoon. The entire state could see up to an inch and a half of rain before it ends. Thunderstorms are even possible for Hartford and Tolland counties on Sunday.

Snow chance next week?

The next chance for some wintry weather may be Tuesday night into Wednesday, but it’s too soon to be specific.

Here is the detailed weekend forecast:

  • Friday: partly sunny, high temp near 40 degrees, feels like 20 to 30 degrees with the wind chill factor
  • Friday night: some possible icing conditions, especially in interior Connecticut
  • Saturday: cloudy and drizzle, temps in the low 40s, feels colder with the wind chill factor
  • Saturday night: rain, heavy at times, temps rising into the mid to upper 40s.
  • Sunday: rain ends late afternoon and temps into the mid 50s, winds may be gusty too.
