WEATHER ALERT: Freeze Warning Issued For Ledyard

On the day snow flakes fell earlier this afternoon we'll be dealing with the coldest temperatures of the season thus far.

Well, it already snowed today in Connecticut so it only seems appropriate that southern Connecticut has a freeze warning in effect from 2 a.m. until 10 a.m. Monday.

The “Freeze Warning” is for all of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties.

Despite the fact low temps in the “Freeze Warning” will be in the upper 20s late tonight no advisories have been posted for Hartford and Tolland counties where temps there will be in the low to mid 20s.

In the “Freeze Warning” area, the National Weather Service writes, that temperatures will be in the 20s and the impacts include “sensitive vegetation and outdoor plants will be damaged or killed due to temperatures at or below freezing.”

“A freeze warning means below freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely,” the weather service writes. “These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney wrote “A few reports of flurries and even some graupel around the state ( a semi melted snowflake).”

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons had a brief post on social media, “How about those flurries???”

Along the immediate coastline temps will range from 30 degrees to about a low of 28 tonight and more inland areas such as Newtown, Naugatuck. and Middletown will see temps fall as low as 25 degrees tonight.
