Winter Storm Forecast for Ledyard This Weekend

The Weather Service cautions this could be a long duration snowstorm. While still early, meteorologists released snow total predictions.

The first significant snowstorm of the 2016 winter season may arrive this weekend. The potentially long-duration snowstorm would begin late Friday, Jan. 22, and not wrap up until Sunday morning.

For all of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties, the National Weather Service writes that “there is growing potential for a major winter storm Friday night into Sunday. This storm could produce heavy snow and strong winds.”

At the immediate coastline, flooding is also a concern, the weather service states.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney wrote on his blog that more answers on possible snow totals are likely on Wednesday.

“A strong storm develops off the mid-Atlantic during the day Saturday into Saturday night, likely ending by Sunday morning,” Sweeney wrote on his blog. “What do don’t know: How close does the storm track, this will dictate if we see major snow or a lighter snow storm.”
