Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate Training Offered

The January program is supported by the Ledge Light Health District and Ledyard Prevention Coalition.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health or substance use problems in adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches adults how to help a young person in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.

Youth Mental Health First Aid uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; provide initial help; and connect young people to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. An evidence-based training, Mental Health First Aid is managed by the National Council for Behavioral Health.

Participants will complete a two-step process: a 2-hour self-paced online course (Step 1),
followed by a 6-hour, instructor-led class on Zoom (Step 2).

Format: Self-paced online class, approximately 2 hours

Step 2

Format: Live, instructor-led, virtual class (6 hours, on Zoom)
