ORANGE, CT — Six cars, all unlocked and with the keys left inside, have been reported stolen in Orange within the past three days, police said.

Police said that during January "there have been over a dozen calls for vehicles having been rummaged through and many calls from people who have reported attempts.

On Tuesday, "a group of young males were in town committing these crimes using another car stolen from North Haven," police said.

Police said the investigation is active, and they have "some great leads on suspects with several of the stolen vehicles recovered already."

"This problem is affecting many areas in our region and is not just an issue in our town," police added in a statement. "The vast majority of these cases are crimes of opportunity, and unfortunately, these kids are finding opportunities everywhere.

"Thank you to the residents who provided their video and those who called as these crimes were occurring, allowing us to flood the area and take quick action in yesterday's cases," police said. "Please make a habit of securing your doors, locking your cars, and not being an easy target. As always, please call us to report any suspicious activity."
