Details And Timing On When To Expect Thunderstorms In Orange Today

Thunderstorms are in the forecast again for the area and here's the latest updates on when to expect them and how severe they may be.

For the third straight day Connecticut is under a Hazardous Weather Outlook as there is a chance for severe thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy downpours today. Today’s weather threat actually offers the best chance for thunderstorms across the state.

The National Weather Service says for southern Connecticut, “There is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms from this afternoon into tonight. The main threat is from damaging winds. There is also a chance for localized flash flooding from late this afternoon through tonight.”

Also for southern Connecticut an Air Quality Alert in effect from 10 AM to 10 PM EDT Thursday.“An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards,” the weather service states. NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote, “Another day of severe storms today. Best chance for storms is after 2 p.m. We'll keep you covered all day!”

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Heat index values as high as 96. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10pm and 5am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7am and noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 70. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between midnight and 5am. Cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Northwest wind around 8 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 85.
