Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Orange

Snow, sleet and heavy rain is taking aim at Connecticut Friday. Here's the latest details on what you can expect today.

Just an ugly early spring day throughout Connecticut with snow and ice falling toward the north and a heavy cold rain pounding the Shoreline. And it’s not going away until Saturday morning.

The coast will see an inch or two of rain before it ends and far northern parts of Connecticut could see between 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet accumulation.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Hartford and Tolland counties from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. Snow and sleet are forecast to accumulate up to 2 to 4 inches, especially in the higher elevations.

The weather service says in northern Connecticut, snow and sleet will pick up this morning and continue throughout the day though there may be a lull in the early afternoon before it picks up again this evening and continues in Saturday morning. The precipitation should stop around 11 a.m. Saturday, according to the weather service.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for inland sections of southern Connecticut including northern Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties where there will be periods of a wintry mix of rain, sleet and even some wet snow are expected into early Saturday morning.

“Little accumulation is expected in most places, but elevations above 750-1000 ft could experience a slushy inch or so of sleet and wet snow with up to quarter inch of ice accumulation,” the National Weather Service said.

For areas along the coast from Greenwich to New London, a Hazardous Weather Outlook is also issued for heavy rainfall that may lead to poor drainage and flooding tonight. Some roads may also become flooded, the weather service states. One to two inches of rain is expected and it’s expected to end before noon Saturday. Temps on Friday will only be around 38 on the coast and will stay around 35 tonight.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, “A nasty mix today of rain and sleet from time to time. Dress warmly it's only going to be in the 30s all day. Could be a messy mix overnight tonight and Saturday morning. Nice weather finally coming in for Sunday with temperatures in the 50s.”
