Man Accused Of Violent Home Invasion And Fled CT Is Charged: Police

ORANGE, CT — Orange Police Department personnel traveled to Milwaukee, Wis.., after their investigation revealed a Bridgeport man accused of a violent home invasion had fled the state of Connecticut., the Orange Police Department said.

Orange Police Detective Menga and Sergeant Koshes traveled to Milwaukee and charged Jonathan Ortiz, 36, formerly of Bridgeport, for a violent home invasion that occurred in June 2020 and also for burglarizing the same residence a month earlier in May 2020, police said.

After Ortiz fled Connecticut following the home invasion, Detective Menga learned that Ortiz had family in Milwaukee and had no intention of returning to Connecticut, police said.

Detective Menga petitioned the court to approve extradition on the arrest warrant based on the nature of the violent crimes, police said.

The court agreed, and the two Orange Police Department officers traveled to Milwaukee to charge Ortiz on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

The Officers surprised Ortiz, but he was aware of the warrant and surrendered without incident, police said.

Ortiz was brought back to Orange, where he was processed and charged with home invasion, 3rd-degree robbery, 1st-degree burglary, 3rd-degree assault of an elderly or disabled person and 5th-degree larceny, police said.

Ortiz was held on a court-set $75,000 bond and was arraigned Nov. 8 in Derby, police said.
