ORANGE, CT – A new cleaning service is coming to Orange after the town Planning and Zoning Commission approved the proposal.

The business is not an ordinary cleaning service because it uses dry ice as the cleaning agent.

The town of Orange Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the proposal on Wednesday, July 5.

Landino told the board the science behind dry ice cleaning and its many applications, including fabrics, automobiles, gas grills, mount bikes, boats, etc. He said using dry ice as the cleaning agent is environmentally safe.

To be more environmentally safe, Landino said the debris removed from cleaning would be sent to a DEEP facility for testing for proper disposal.

Before approving the proposal, Chairman Oscar Parenete told the board if a dry ice cleaning service is permitted under the C-2 zone under the current regulations.

Zoning Enforcement Officer Jack Demirjian told the board there would be no discussion if a dry cleaner or laundromat were interested in occupying the space.

“The issue is that this is a new cleaning technology that we are unfamiliar with,” he said.

Commissioners Kevin Cornell and Judy Smith agreed Landino might need a bigger space if he would acquire a contract to clean taxi cabs or other large vehicles.

Landino said the building at 367 Boston Post Rd. is a 3,7000-square-foot building where customers would drop off and pick up items, all cleaning would be enclosed within the building and safety features would be installed inside to monitor CO2 levels.

After further discussion, Orange Planning and Zoning Commission decided that a dry ice cleaning business falls under Section 383-49(A) as a permitted retail use.
