Orange Resident Has Lead Role In ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’

ORANGE, CT — (Contributed press release): Orange resident Lauren Salatto-Rosenay has a lead role of Audrey in Quinnipiac University’s upcoming performance of “Little Shop of Horrors.” The Quinnipiac University Theater Program will present the musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” from March 1–4 at the Center for Theatre Arts at Quinnipiac, 515 Sherman Avenue. Written by Howard Ashman and composed by Alan Menken, the play was one of the longest-running, off-Broadway shows and has since been produced worldwide.

“This show illuminates the talents of our students and takes advantage of all the theatrical possibilities that were opened up to us when we moved into our new Theatre Arts Center last fall,” said Kevin Daly, assistant professor and chair of the theater program at Quinnipiac.

The play’s protagonist, a meek floral assistant named Seymour Krelborn (played by Louis Napolitano of River Vale, New Jersey), stumbles across a new breed of plant that he names “Audrey II” (played by Connor Whiteley of New Haven) after his co-worker and love interest. This foul-mouthed, R&B singing, carnivorous plant promises fame and fortune to Seymour as long as he keeps feeding it blood. Over time, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s other worldly origins and her pursuit of global domination.

In addition to Napolitano and Whiteley, the cast includes Kat Katriel of Oakland, New Jersey, who plays Chiffon; Regina Gunther of Valley Stream, New York, who plays Crystal; Nicole Mawhirter of Malverne, New York, who plays Ronnette; Ryan Devaney of Wallingford, Connecticut, who plays Mushnick; and Lauren Salatto-Rosenay of Orange, Connecticut, who plays Audrey. Paul Zopatti of Rockport, Massachusetts will play several characters, including Orin, Bernstein, Snip and Luce.

James Noble, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, will direct the musical; Abbey Copeland, assistant teaching professor of theater, will design the set; Margaret Peebles will supervise the lighting; and Katya Vetrov will oversee the wardrobe.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. on March 1–3 and at 2 p.m. on March 3–4. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at qulittleshop.brownpapertickets.com. For more information, call 203-582-8652.
