Orange Teen Dies From Crash Injuries

An Orange teen who was critically injured in a June 23 crash died from her injuries, according to police.

ORANGE, CT — An Orange teen succumbed to injuries she suffered after being hit by a car near the intersection of the Boston Post Road and Old Tavern Road June 23.

Chance Thompson, 19, was struck on Old Tavern Road while crossing the roadway, police said. She suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

"Today chance took her last breath," Thompson's mother Misty Thompson posted on GoFundMe. "She fought hard and in true stubborn Chance style. But she is now at peace and has been able to bless others with her gifts of organs. She will always be with us in her spirit."

A 17-year-old female from West Haven was driving the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta that struck Thompson, police said. She stopped at the scene and has cooperated with investigators.

"This incident occurred in an area between shopping plazas, and Miss Thompson was not in a marked crosswalk when she attempted to cross the road," police said in a statement.

Thompson was a student at Eastern Connecticut State University and was an active member of the Orange Historical Society.

The Orange Police Accident Reconstruction Team continue to investigate the crash. Some witnesses have come forward, but police encourage anyone with additional information to contact Officer Denny Peterson at 203-891-2130 ext. 8409.
