In the fall of 2007, the new Amity Creative Theater presented their first play: The Laramie Project. The play broke new ground for the theater department and created the foundation for all the great productions that have followed it.

The Laramie Project tells the story of the brutal killing of a gay college student named Matthew Sheppard and how his home town of Laramie, Wyoming dealt with the aftermath of the crime. The authors of the play, the members of the Tectonic Theater Company, revisited Wyoming ten years after the murder to investigate if real change had occurred in Laramie. What does change look like? Have we progressed as a nation? How do we stop hate?
