Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Orange

Snow accumulation estimates are on the rise for the area and here's the latest on how much and when to expect the worst of the snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a “Winter Weather Advisory” for the entire state of Connecticut as it’s expecting a quick moving snowstorm to dump a few inches of snow beginning late Thursday and into midday Friday.

It’s expected that the timing of the snow, which is expected to be at its heaviest during the morning commute, will impact schools across the state on Friday. The National Weather Service is predicting three to five inches of accumulation statewide.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons offers us some good advice.

“Get outside and enjoy the sunshine and 50s today! I'm expecting big problems with snow for Friday morning! Three inches to 6 inches of snow expected across most of Connecticut for Friday morning. Then a very cold weekend with windchills around 10 degrees for Saturday and Sunday!”

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan puts the accumulation expectation just a notch below the National Weather Service’s projection.

“Most of our computer models have converged on a solution that has 2"-4" of snow across the state with a few towns getting a bit more. The morning commute looks snowy!”

And of course once the snow wraps up around noon Friday, the focus turns to the freezing temps and windchills this weekend, and there is a chance for a snowstorm Monday night into Tuesday too.
