Woman, 79, Arrested In Fatal Orange Crash: Police

The March 2019 crash killed Steven Sylvester, 45, of Harwinton.

ORANGE, CT — A 79-year-old Derby woman was arrested on a warrant over the weekend charging her with misconduct with a motor vehicle in connection with a March crash in Orange that killed 45-year-old Harwinton resident Steven Sylvester.

Ramona H. Rubin was arrested on Sept. 14, and she was additionally charged with failure to drive in a proper lane. The crash occurred at about 3:15 p.m. on March 25 on Derby Avenue.

According to Orange police, Rubin was driving a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle when she "drifted off the right side of the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a 45 year-old male who was standing to the rear of his flatbed tractor-trailer truck."

Police had Rubin's identity at the time, but she was only charged following "a lengthy investigation by the Department's accident reconstruction team."

She was released after posting a $25,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Sept. 30.
