Connecticut Weather: 'Potent' Storm System Draws Closer

The work week is off to an interesting start from a weather standpoint. The weather service says a 'potent' storm system is approaching.

The forecast for Connecticut to start the work week sounds like something you'd expect to see in the heart of summer. The forecast calls for heavy rain, gusty winds, milder temps and even thunderstorms to begin the week.

On Monday, "Overcast skies, light rain, drizzle and patchy fog will continue across the area for much of today as a warm front slowly approaches the area," the National Weather Service says. Tuesday will definitely be the worst of the weather for the week as that is when Connecticut will see the heaviest of rains, wind and possible thunderstorms.

"As a potent storm system draws closer, heavy rainfall and the potential for isolated thunderstorms will develop on Tuesday. Strong wind gusts may be possible, especially near any heavier showers or thunderstorms. As the front passes through Tuesday evening, rain will rapidly end from west to east. Gusty winds will continue following the front into Tuesday night. Temperatures then return to more seasonable values for the mid week as high pressure builds across the region," the National Weather Service says.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "A dreary day today. Make sure you have your wet weather gear including the umbrella! There will be some steady rain arriving for the evening commute. Heavy rain and wind for tomorrow! Colder with brighter skies later this week!"

From "Another mild day, with some off/on showers. No big deal today, but heavier, more consistent rain arrives with a front Tuesday. That leads to colder temps for the 2nd half of the week."
