Connecticut Weather: Winter Storm Warning Issued For Heavy Snow

Warnings have now been issued for today's snowstorm and the timeline for when it will begin has also changed. Here are the new details.

The National Weather Service has just changed a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning for all of Connecticut as parts of the state could end up with nine inches of snow by 6 a.m. Sunday. One other big change to the forecast is that the snow is now expected to start sooner than initially thought. Snow will enter the western part of the state around 5 p.m. and it should be snowing everywhere by 7 p.m.

The Winter Storm Warning for Southern Connecticut is in effect from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday where heavy snow is forecast and between five and nine inches of snow is possible.

For Hartford, Tolland and Litchfield counties the storm warning is from 7 p.m. tonight to 7 a.m. Sunday. Five to eight inches of snow is expected here. There could be snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times during this fast-moving storm.

said, "The cold air is starting to set up - big temp change over the last 24 hours. We are going to be hovering around the freezing mark until after sunrise, and likely close to freezing during the event. Big thump of snow likely to produce most of the snowfall."

And once this snow ends a major warmup will occur but long-range forecasts are showing a snowy March.
