Trumbull Primary Elections 2024: Results In Key Races

TRUMBULL, CT — Residents across the state hit the polls Tuesday to vote in primary elections.

Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.

U.S. Senate

In Trumbull, registered Republicans voted for one of two candidates to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Gerry Smith, the first selectman of Beacon Falls, is running against Manchester native, businessman and Navy veteran Matthew Corey.

According to unofficial results, Corey defeated Smith in their respective race and thanked Connecticut Republicans on X in a post made at 9:52 p.m., saying "I am deeply honored by the trust you have placed on me." He also thanked Smith for "his very gracious phone call" conceding the race, shortly after 10 p.m.

U.S. Congress

Republicans also had to choose between physician Michael Goldstein of Greenwich, and Fairfield finance executive Bob MacGuffie. Both men are looking to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Himes to represent Fairfield and Connecticut's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

According to unofficial results, Goldstein defeated MacGuffie in their respective race.

State Senator, 22nd District

Trumbull residents who are registered Democrats could vote for one of the following candidates in the race for state senator in Connecticut's 22nd district: Bridgeport residents Scott Burns and Tyler Mack and Trumbull residents William A. Finch and Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox.

The Trumbull Times reports Gadkar-Wilcox declared victory in the four-way state senate primary around 9:45 p.m. after runner up Finch conceded. She will now likely face Trumbull resident Chris Carrena, a Republican, in the November election.
