Pedestrian Fatally Hit By Car On I-84 In Vernon: Police

Police said the pedestrian was lying on the road when he was struck by a Nissan Altima near Exit 65.

VERNON, CT — Authorities are asking for the public's help after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car on Interstate 84 in Vernon on Saturday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. on eastbound I-84 near the Exit 65 on-ramp, Connecticut State Police said in a report. According to police, a Nissan Altima was traveling east in the right-center lane when it struck a person who was lying on the road.

The pedestrian — identified by police as John A. Kaszowski, 65, of Manchester — was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said it's unknown why he was lying on the road.

The three people inside the Nissan were not injured.

State police are asking for witnesses who may have witnessed the crash to come forward.
