Wethersfield Diver Places In Top 8 at State Open

NEW HAVEN, CT — Three state records were demolished and a State Open standard fell by the wayside during the CIAC boys swimming State Open championships Saturday at the Yale University pool.

Kieran Smith of Ridgefield shattered his own state records in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, while the Fairfield Prep 200 medley relay team of Liam Colleran, Oliver Rus, Stanislav Yarmoussik and William Duffy also established a new state mark. Rus set a new State Open record in the 100 breaststroke.

For the sixth straight year, and 34th time since 1973, Greenwich High School captured the team championship, compiling 487.5 points to 457 for Fairfield Prep and 408 for Staples.
