Water Main Flushing Scheduled For Middlebury

The Connecticut Water Company is flushing some of its water mains in the Naugatuck River Valley.

Connecticut Water Company is scheduled to flush some of its water mains in Naugatuck River Valley communities, including Middlebury and Naugatuck, beginning next week, the company announced.

"Routine flushing helps to maintain water quality by scouring the inside of the water mains and allows the Company to assess the condition of fire hydrants," officials wrote in a statement.

The flushing operations are scheduled for the daytime between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The schedule is as follows:

"During water main flushing it is possible that some customers may experience pressure fluctuations," wrote officials. "Flushing may also stir up harmless sediment that can cause discolored water. This is not a health concern but we do recommend that, if possible, customers avoid using the washing machine, dishwasher and other water-using devices until after flushing is completed and the water has cleared."
