The commute home may be a slippery one, with freezing rain, snow and sleet in the forecast.

The advisory was just issued Monday afternoon and continues until 11 p.m. for interior sections listed above. Snow, freezing rain and sleet is forecast and may accumulate 1 to 3 inches, along with a trace amount of ice.

Slippery conditions on any untreated roadways and walkways are possible. If you’re traveling in these areas, it is recommended motorists give themselves extra time and distance when driving, as the evening commute home may be slippery.

Original Post:

Strange weather day this Monday. Much of Connecticut will see snowflakes throughout the morning until around noon and then the snow returns this evening.

After we get past Monday, there are no chances of snow in the forecast at this point. Mother Nature is keeping a lid on temperatures this week, so it will feel like winter several days this week. Temps could drop into the teens late Tuesday.

Here is a detailed looked at the forecast via the National Weather Service:

Monday's Forecast

Immediate Connecticut coastline: Snow comes back this evening, mixed with rain, as temps fall to 25 degrees. We again could see a coating of snow on grassy surfaces. The snow ends by 2 a.m. on the shoreline. A “Freeze Warning” is also in effect for the New London County area.

Interior sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties: It remains all snow here until early Monday afternoon and an inch or possibly two inches of snow could accumulate before the change to rain later this afternoon. The snow returns this evening and up to a half inch of additional snow is possible.

"Coldest temperatures will occur after midnight tonight [Monday] through sunrise Tuesday," the NWS stated in its freeze warning. "Impacts... sub-freezing temperatures will kill sensitive plants if not protected or brought indoors."

  • Tuesday: Sunshine but temps won’t even hit 40 degrees and the wind will make it feel like 10 degrees.
  • Tuesday night: Temps into the upper teens.
  • Wednesday: Sunshine and back into the mid 40s.
  • Thursday: Showers and temps rising into the mid 50s.
  • Friday: Mostly cloudy and temps near 50 degrees.
  • Saturday and Sunday: It feels cold both days with temps in the low to mid-40s both days. Partly sunny.
