Broward College Names '23-'24 Professors & Adjunct Professors of Year

Twelve faculty members honored for their excellence and contributions in and out of the classroom

Broward College has named 12 exceptional faculty members as Professors of the Year and Adjunct Professors of the Year for the 2023-2024 academic year.

“Each one of these professors continuously goes above and beyond to enrich the lives of our students and provide opportunities for them inside and outside of the classroom,” said Jeffrey Nasse, Ph.D., Broward College Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We are so proud of our honorees and thank them for the positive impact they have on our students.”

Each year, Broward College recognizes those faculty members who are accomplishing the mission of transforming the lives of students and uplifting the Broward College community through teaching excellence and academic innovation. These full-time and adjunct faculty are nominated by students and colleagues and then evaluated and interviewed by the Professor of the Year Committee. The committee selects the award recipients.

A. Hugh Adams Central Campus

Hannah Moody, assistant professor in the Arts, Humanities, Communications, and Design (AHCD) Pathway, teaches public speaking and business communication. She is also the program coordinator for the College’s New Media Communication program and advises the Steelo Fashion Club. An avid ice hockey fan, Professor Moody is the stage manager on the Florida Panthers game presentation staff.

Michael Newman, associate professor in the AHCD Pathway, teaches English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and founded the Seahawk Speaking Society, a platform designed to help students discover themselves, build confidence as speakers, and explore entrepreneurial endeavors. He holds a master’s in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from Eastern Michigan University. He published “Michael’s English Handbook for English Learners” in 2023 and “Vocabulary Journal: by Michael's English” in 2024.

Michael O’Neill, adjunct professor in the Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services (SBSHS) Pathway, teaches social and political science. He incorporates current events and real-world examples into his curriculum. Since 2014, Professor O’Neill has served as a mentor and leader in The College Academy at Broward College. In partnership with Broward County Public Schools, The College Academy provides an educational bridge from high school to college for accelerated high school students who wish to begin the pursuit of their academic goals through dual enrollment by concurrently earning a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree. Professor O’Neill was born and raised in Guatemala.

Ruth Stewart, adjunct professor in the AHCD Pathway, is a seasoned communication and speech educator who has devoted more than 20 years to Broward College. She provides students with guidance and encouragement as a Take Stock in Children mentor and advocates for mental health awareness as a National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) club advisor at Broward College. A speech judge for Miami-Dade Schools and coach of flag football and soccer teams, Professor Stewart is also currently pursuing her Educational Doctorate in the Learning Sciences program at the University of Miami in Coral Gables.

North Campus

Reinaldo Ponce, associate professor in the STEM Pathway, teaches mathematics. With more than two decades of teaching experience, including 12 years at Broward College, Professor Ponce is a trailblazer in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the classroom. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and Masters in Mathematics from Florida International University (FIU) in Miami. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at FIU, Professor Ponce is focusing his research on student-centered instruction in higher education mathematics. Professor Ponce was recently published in the academic journal “Problems, Resources, and Issues in Mathematics Undergraduate Studies.”

Roumen Boudey, adjunct professor in the AHCD Pathway, has been teaching visual arts including drawing, painting, life drawing, and 2D and 2D design, as well as art appreciation, at Broward College for 10 years. He is a world-renowned artist whose work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, corporations, and private collections in 25 different countries including the U.S. and throughout Europe and Asia. One of his most notable projects is the fresco mural adorning the ceiling of Townsend Lobby at the Detroit Opera House because it showcases his mastery of mural painting and captures the essence of contemporary art.

Mario Desrosiers, adjunct professor in the STEM Pathway, has been teaching mathematics at Broward College for 10 years and serves as the Math Department Chair at The College Academy at Broward College. Born and raised in Haiti, Professor Desrosiers moved to the U.S. in 1999. He earned his bachelor’s degree in math and master’s degree in curriculum instruction with a specialization in statistics from FIU.

Judson A. Samuels South Campus

Rhonda Bobb, Ph.D., associate professor in the AHCD Pathway’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, teaches various courses including grammar and composition, phonetics and communication, reading, and student life skills. In her more than 25 years at Broward College, she previously taught accent reduction in the Continuing Education Department for English language learners. She’s made significant contributions to the Title V Co-Op Grant, collaborating with the Educator Preparation Institutes’ (EPIs) alternative certification program. Within the Teacher Education Program and at the Lingua Language Center at Broward College’s downtown campus, Dr. Bobb has also instructed English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) issues and strategies classes. She was honored as the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 Broward College South Campus Adjunct Professor of the Year.

Eddie Robinson, adjunct professor in the STEM Pathway, has taught mathematics courses for 12 years. Experienced in teaching math to nursing students and students with disabilities, Professor Robinson also devotes time to tutoring in the Academic Success Center. A Seahawk through and through, Professor Robinson earned his Associate of Science in Mathematics from Broward College, where he also played on the basketball team. He continued on to Florida Atlantic University to complete his undergraduate studies and earn a Bachelor of Arts in Math. Dr. Robinson earned two master’s degrees in education curriculum and instruction, as well as educational leadership, from the American College of Education. His two daughters followed in his footsteps as Broward College students.

Reginald Latortue, adjunct professor in the AHCD Pathway, has taught communication courses at Broward College for 13 years. He holds a master’s degree in technology and in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Barry University in Miami and previously taught EAP at Miami Dade College. Professor Latortue currently teaches EAP classes on Broward College’s South campus and is a member of the communication department on the Central campus.

Online Campus

Krzysztof Bryniuk, Ph.D., MBA, MAAC, MM, professor in the Business Pathway, has taught at Broward College for 10 years. He has experience in accounting, finance, business management, and economics in a variety of industries including academia, banking, hospitality, and real estate. In addition to teaching, he manages his own accounting and tax services firm. Dr. Bryniuk holds a Doctor of Business Education from George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon and two master’s degrees in accounting and business administration from FAU. He also completed graduate studies in marketing and finance at the Poznań University of Economics and Business in Poznań, Poland, as well as business economics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Bryniuk previously received an Endowed Teaching Chair award during the 2022-2023 academic year.

Glenn Roberts, adjunct professor in the Public Safety Pathway, has taught at Broward College for 11 years. The retired Broward County law enforcement veteran initially served as a law enforcement trainer, but his role has since expanded to create and teach online courses within the criminal justice degree programs. Professor Roberts was a student at Broward College before earning his B.A. in Public Administration from Barry University, M.S. in Business Administration and Management from Troy University in Troy, Alabama, and M.S. in Criminal Justice and Police Science from University of Central Florida in Orlando, all with honors.
