Coronavirus: Boca Raton Event Postponements, Cancellations

The City of Boca Raton is coordinating with all our community partners while closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation for our area. City staff is continuously assessing and adapting emergency plans for COVID-19 and is implementing mitigation strategies to slow the transmission of the disease, in particular to protect individuals at increased risk for severe illness, including older adults and those with underlying health conditions, as well as the healthcare of critical infrastructure workforces. In an abundance of caution, the following city-sponsored special events have been postponed or canceled:

Postponed

  • March 14 - Police Shred Event, Town Center Mall (postponed - Date TBA)
  • March 21 - Touch a Truck, Spanish River Library (postponed until Fall 2020)

Canceled

  • March 13 - Food Truck Friday, Memorial Park
  • March 29 - Boca Raton Summer Camp Expo, Boca Raton Community Center
  • March 30 - Annual Miami Open Bus Trip, Boca Racquet Center
  • Friends of the Library Sunday Speaker Series
    • March 15 - Alessandra Tamerin – The Butterfly with Town Wings: A Memoir of Staying Alive, Spanish River Library
    • March 22 - Rose Feinberg – A presentation on the lives and careers of three singing women: Bette Midler, Carole King and Barbara Streisand, Downtown Library

The City will continue to make determinations about future mass assemblies including concerts and large events. In the meantime, according to the CDC guidelines, people who are considered to have a higher risk should take extra precautions to reduce their risk. Currently, those individuals include:

  • Older adults
  • People who have underlying health conditions

If you are in a high-risk category, this may be the time to evaluate your exposure and take all precautions necessary to reduce your chances of getting sick. Be sure to avoid close contact with people who are sick, take everyday precautions like washing your hands and disinfecting your home, avoid large crowds, especially in poorly ventilated areas and take extra measures to put distance between yourself and other people to further reduce your exposure to the virus.
