BOCA RATON, FL — A dog was thrown over the fence of a Boca Raton animal rescue’s fence and “left to die” the day before Thanksgiving, Tri-County Animal Rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

And it’s, unfortunately, a common occurrence, the organization wrote. “I don’t know why we get surprised. Every year, the week of Thanksgiving or even on the day of, morning employees or volunteers find a dog tied to or thrown over our fence. Every single year and this was just like all the years prior.”

The dog — now named Pumpkin Pie — was bloody, “her frail body too scared and weak to move” when staff found her Tuesday, Tri-County wrote.

She was lying at the fence line and covered in infected and burst mammary tumors. Most of her teeth will likely need to be extracted and her hair was matted.

The worst part was her “shutdown spirit,” the organization wrote.

Tri-County is seeking donations to help pay for Pumpkin Pie’s medical care. As of Thursday, 5, p.m., the rescue was $3,000 away from its goal.

“For the price of a bag of cranberries or a cheese plate, you will be saving a life,” the organization wrote.
