These include a speeding camera, metal detectors, and a new locked door policy.

Metal detectors have been placed at both points of entry into LRHS. The detectors have been placed to keep students from bringing weapons or prohibited items onto campus.

House bill 1473 requires schools to lock all doors on their campuses every day. This will prevent any potential threats to the school.

Meanwhile it’s against the law to speed through a school zone during the school day, even if warning lights aren’t flashing.

There is a 30-day period where students will receive warnings when driving 10 miles over the speed limit, only after that period is when students will be given a violation as well as a $100 fine.
All violations will be reviewed by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

LRHS Assistant Principal Michael Staker said these new regulations are a community effort. Students are encouraged to report any suspicious activity and to secure and keep all doors locked when moving in and out of buildings and classrooms.

“While it may be inconvenient for some, it is crucial that we ALL do our best everyday to protect our school,” Staker said.
