VALRICO, FL — A former music teacher at Grace Christian School faces charges after impregnating a student, who he had an inappropriate relationship with when she was underage, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Denzel Proctor, 26, was charged with five counts of sexual battery by a familial or custodial authority or authority figure over a student, and one count of unlawful sexual activity with a minor as an authority figure over a student.

Detectives were told about the sexual battery of a pregnant 18-year-old victim on July 3, the sheriff’s office said. Proctor started his relationship with the girl in 2022 when she was 16.

The victim told investigators that she had a sexual relationship with him both on and off campus between 2022 and 2024, resulting in her becoming pregnant.

Proctor resigned from the school in December. After he left the school, rumors of the allegations were reported to the Department of Children and Families by the school.

An arrest warrant was issued on July 10 for the former teacher, who was taken into custody without incident,

"This man preyed upon a vulnerable teenager, violating the trust of our community. Such betrayal is especially devastating when it comes from someone expected to serve as a mentor,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “I hope that this victim can heal from the trauma caused by this man and take advantage of the resources available to her.”
