13 Leap Day Babies Born At Sarasota Memorial Hospital Campuses

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — Thursday was a busy day for Sarasota Memorial Health Care System’s labor and delivery teams, who welcomed 13 “lucky” Leap Day babies, according to a news release from SMH.

Twelve “leaplings” were born at the Sarasota campus and one was born at the new Venice campus.

This was a record-breaking Leap Year for the hospital system. The Sarasota campus delivered seven Leap Day babies in 2016 and eight in 2020.

The first baby born Thursday was Emmett Sinibaldi at 7:56 a.m. at the Venice campus. He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 20 inches long. His parents, Josh and Angela, live on Venice Island, along with his big brother, 3-year-old Henry.

The chances of a baby being born on Feb. 29 are 1 in 1,461, SMH said.
