13th Annual First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon Race Results

Blake Riley of Sarasota sets new half marathon course record; Jacki Wachtel of New Port Richey wins women's division third year in a row

Local Sarasota runner Blake Riley, age 21, took a commanding lead from the start on his way to set a new half marathon course record at Sunday’s 13th Annual First Watch Half Marathon, Relay and 10K, completing the 13.1 mile run in 1:13:19, an almost one minute improvement over last year’s course record of 1:14:03. Jacki Wachtel, age 38, of New Port Richey, Fla., took her third First Watch Half Marathon title in 1:24:22.

Other top three half marathon men’s division winners included Jacob Deese, age 28, of Lakeland, Fla. took second in 1:15:56 and Joshua Cochran, age 37, of Hilliard, Ohio third in 1:17:42. For the women’s half marathon, Diana Sitar, age 32, from Palmetto, Fla. came in second in 1:26:04 and Brigid Moriarty, age 31, from Terrytown, NY, third in 1:26:44.

In the two-person male relay, Blizzard Rates of Kalamazoo, Mich. took first place in 1:40:54; Sole Hermanos of Naples, Fla., second in 1:49:31 and Too Cold to Run in Canada of Aurora, XX, third in 1:55:23.

In the women’s relay, Sarasota-based Team0630SK took first in 1:36:33, and Team Runnergirl from Bradenton second in 1:36:33 and ILoveMiami from Miami third in 1:42:30.

For the co-ed relay, FatherDaughterDuo from Polk City won in 1:32:00; Pimp My Stride from Miami Beach second in 1:42:02 and Irun Chasquis also from Miami Beach third in 1:44:23.

The new 10K race, added to the lineup just one month ago, drew more than 200 participants with Jeffrey Zickus, age 44, of Atlanta, Ga. winning in 37:06, followed by Matthew Sandburg, age 38, from Sarasota coming in second and Mike McMonagle, age 52, from St. Paul, Minn., third in 43:06. For the women, Wendy Tocha, age 41, of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Abby Perone, age 32, also of Saint Petersburg, appeared to do a one-two match chip time of 43:59, with Tocha ultimately being handed the winner’s medal based on her gun time of 44:03 vs. Perone’s 44:23.

Presented by Life Time – Healthy Way of Life ™, the longest running half marathon in Sarasota drew participants from 21 states and 15 countries.
