SARASOTA, FL — As Tropical Storm Debby churns along Florida’s west coast Sunday, streets are flooding across Sarasota, police said in a news release.

Areas affected by the flooding, include:
  • the south end of Lido Key
  • the area of Sarasota Bayfront, including side streets and a portion of Main Street
  • U.S. 41 from Gulfstream Avenue to 12th Street
  • City Island, near Ken Thompson Park and Mote Marine Aquarium
  • the north entrance to Siesta Key
  • Bird Key, specifically the Twin Bridges
  • N. Orange Avenue, near the intersection of 18th Street
  • 17th Street from N. Euclid Avenue to N Lime Avenue
Officers encourage the public to avoid the barrier islands until the storm passes.
Debby will likely move slowly across the state Monday, produce rainfall totals of 6-18 inches over northern Florida through Friday morning, and cause flash, urban and river flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
