Fountains' Residents take trip to St. Augustine

Residents of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods in Sarasota took an Extraordinary Outing to St. Augustine in May

Residents of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, an independent and assisted living community in Sarasota, took an Extraordinary Outing to St. Augustine from May 11 to 13, 2022. Fifteen residents of the independent living community went on the trip, which was planned by associates with input from residents.

Over the course of three days, residents visited Castillo de San Marcos, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, the Lightner Museum, The St. Augustine Distillery and San Sebastian Winery. They also got a tour of historic downtown St. Augustine on the Old Town Trolley Tour and went shopping on St. George Street.

The highlight of the trip was the sunset cruise aboard The Schooner Freedom on the first night. Residents were served champagne as they took in the sunset and several dolphin sightings.

“One of the resident’s birthdays was that day and her request for the trip was to spend her birthday on the water,” said Michelle Sayre, Community Life Director at The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods. “The residents really enjoyed the experience – from learning about the city from the captain and crew to taking in the sunset – it was beautiful.”

Sayre and her team planned the trip for residents – from transportation and lodging at the Casablanca Inn on the Bay to scheduling tours and meals. For residents, this made attending the trip easy and let them focus on having fun.

“There’s so much to explore in our great state and we love giving residents the opportunity to do so with ease,” said Sayre. “This trip was extra special given it was postponed in 2020 due to COVID. Our residents were so excited to reschedule this trip and explore the oldest city in America.”

Extraordinary Outings are a regular part of community life at The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods and give residents the opportunity to travel around the state of Florida and beyond with their neighbors and friends.
