SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — An air advisory for elevated ozone levels and/or the potential for elevated ozone levels was issued for Lido Key on Tuesday by Sarasota County, according to a news release.

The elevated levels were detected Tuesday and the advisory is in place through dusk.

People with respiratory issues may experience health effects while the advisory is in place and should limit their outdoor activities, the county said. The general public likely won’t be affected.

The levels fall within the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” category according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Ambient Air Quality Standards for public health, the county said.

In 2015, the EPA strengthened these standards for ground-level ozone from .075 parts per million, which was in place since 2008, to .070 parts per million. The agency reviews these standards every five years to determine if revisions are needed.

The Sarasota County Air program has monitored air quality since 1985 and reports its results through the Air Quality Index. It has four monitoring stations throughout the county that presents ozone levels and other data in real time.
