NORTH PORT, FL — Drivers heading south on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County can expect delays Wednesday afternoon after a semi-trailer truck caught fire, authorities said.

While one lane has reopened, traffic in the area is still slow, the North Port Police Department wrote in a Facebook post. Traffic is being diverted onto Toledo Blade Boulevard.

The truck caught fire near mile marker 180, North Port Fire Rescue wrote on Facebook.

The flatbed trailer and its load has since been protected and the fire put out, the agency said.

Florida Highway Patrol assisted North Port police and firefighters at the scene.
