SARASOTA, FL — In March, 442,846 passengers traveled through the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, setting a new record for the most passengers served in a single month at the airport.

This is a 59.5 percent increase over passengers served in March 2021, according to a news release from the airport. Passengers traveling through SRQ year to date, in the first three months of 2022, total 1,085,500 compared to 564,066 passengers during the same period in 2021, an increase of 92 percent.

“We are pleased to see so many travelers were able to experience the convenience of our airport the past three months,” said Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of the airport. “These record-breaking passenger numbers were unimaginable just a few years ago before SRQ grew to 11 airlines and 53 nonstop destinations. The demand to live, work and vacation in our community has exploded, and we are seeing the repercussions of this.”

There are other projects in the works at SRQ, as well. In 2022, the airport will break ground on more than $150 million in construction projects, including a new five-gate terminal.

“We appreciate the community’s patience as we improve the airport and strive to maintain the easy, convenient, travel experience passengers enjoy when flying SRQ,” said Piccolo.
