Child Thrown From SUV In DUI Crash: St. Pete Police

The driver, a Pinellas Park woman, was charged with driving under the influence, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 2-year-old was injured after being thrown from an SUV during a DUI crash Friday night, St. Petersburg police said.

Krista Carver, 33, of Pinellas Park was charged with driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, child neglect, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and possession of a controlled substance.

Carver was seen swerving without her headlights on while driving south in the median lane of the 4200 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South around 11:30 p.m., police said.

Her 2-year-old passenger was improperly secured in a child safety seat and thrown from the SUV.

The child was brought to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Carver, who showed signs of impairment at the scene of the crash, was brought to Orlando Bayfront Hospital, where she was treated for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
