ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg City Council will discuss and take a final vote on plans for the Historic Gas Plant District redevelopment next week, according to a news release from the city.

The Tampa Bay Rays, working with developers Hines, were chosen last year to redevelop 86 acres in the district, including Tropicana Field, the team’s current stadium.

The full redevelopment of the neighborhood will span more than 8 million square feet, including more than 5,000 residential units, 600 affordable/workforce housing units on site and another 650 units elsewhere in the city, 1.4 million square feet of office/medical space, and 750 hotel rooms.

The stadium itself will have a capacity of about 30,000 and boast a three-deck design with various seating types, including premium clubs and suits, flexible viewing areas, decks, and social gathering spaces.

The Committee of the Whole, which is composed of all council members and deliberates on various issues in the city, will meet on Tuesday, 9 a.m., at St. Petersburg City Hall to discuss the development agreement for the project.

Mayor Kenneth T. Welch and representatives of the Rays and Hines will also attend.

A final vote by the city council will take place on July 18, 11 a.m., at city hall in the council chambers.

Both meetings are open to the public, though there are no opportunities for public comment at the COW meeting.

Seating will be limited at both meetings and overflow seating will be available.

Due to limited seating, the public is encouraged to watch the meeting live on SPTV at www.stpete.org/tv or on channels 641 (Spectrum), 15 (Wow), and 20 (Frontier).
