ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A man accused of driving under the influence was arrested Monday night after hitting a police cruiser with its emergency lights, according to a St. Petersburg Police Department news release.

James Anderson, 60, slammed into the officer’s car, which was parked for traffic control at 18th Avenue South and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South, around 7:15 p.m.

The officer, who suffered minor injuries in the crash, was brought to a hospital for treatment.

Officers determined that Anderson was impaired and took him into custody, police said.

He was charged with DUI involving property damage, possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl), and driving with a license that was suspended or revoked.
