ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The Tampa Bay Rays winning streak since the season opener has extended to 11-0 with Tuesday’s 7-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox.
The Rays saw four home runs — including back-to-back homers from Yandy Díaz and Brandon Lowe — and a strong performance by pitcher Shane McClanahan in the win.
Since beating the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on March 30, the team has enjoyed the longest Major League Baseball winning streak at the start of a season since 1987, according to USA Today.

It’s also the Rays’ second-longest winning streak in the team’s history, MLB tweeted.

The record for the best start to a season is held by the 1987 Milwaukee Brewers and the 1982 Atlanta Braves with 13 wins in a row, ESPN reported.
Tampa Bay is currently tied with the 1981 Athletics team for the third-longest season-opening winning streak in modern baseball, MLB said.
“We (heart) winning,” the Rays wrote in social media posts in response to the streak.
