Bank Questions Story of Detained Rapper: Report

Blac Youngsta says he was detained outside Wells Fargo after withdrawing $200K in cash, but the bank says he doesn't have an account there.

BUCKHEAD, GA -- An Atlanta rapper who was briefly detained outside a Buckhead Wells Fargo during the course of a forgery investigation doesn’t have an account with that bank, according to a report.

Blac Youngsta, born Sam Benson, says he and his entourage were held by police on Friday after he withdrew $200,000 in cash to buy a new luxury car. Youngsta said on social media that he was targeted for detention because he was black and wealthy.

A Wells Fargo spokeswoman poked some holes in this story, telling the Atlanta Journal Constitution that the rapper didn’t bank with them, didn’t set foot inside the building, and didn’t make the purported $200,000 withdrawal.

Police were at the bank attempting to find the person a 911 caller said had tried to cash a $24,000 bogus check. The caller gave the police a “limited and conflicting” description of the suspect.

Police monitoring surveillance cameras directed officers on the scene to a possible suspect inside a car in the parking lot. As it turns out, they had pointed out Blac Youngsta and his entourage.

Quickly discovering neither Black Youngsta nor anyone in his entourage had anything to do with the forgery, police released them all from custody.

Officers now say that the actual suspect is 39-year-old Charles Darnell Edward. He was arrested at the scene and charged with first degree forgery.
