In Loving Memory of Brooks Pearson, Jr., 75

Brooks Pearson, Jr. (75) passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, after a period of declining health. He was born in Atlanta on August 31, 1940, the older son of Brooks Pearson, Sr. and Julia Gatewood Pearson.

Brooks graduated from the Westminster Schools where he participated in many sports and school activities. He attended Vanderbilt University where he was a Kappa Alpha Pledge. Pneumonia forced him to return to Atlanta where he later enrolled in and graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA degree in marketing. He graduated from Emory University Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree.

In earlier years, Brooks enjoyed his summers at Camp Carolina in Brevard, N.C. In 1975, Brooks married Barbara Adams of Thomaston, Ga. They were married for 37 years until her death in 2012.

Brooks began and grew a law practice in both Atlanta and Madison, Ga. He worked in domestic relations, criminal defense, personal injury, and estate administration. He also taught law at John Marshall Law School and Mercer University in Atlanta. Additionally, he found time to write articles for “The Madisonian “ and other Georgia weekly newspapers. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a member of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, Ansley Golf Club, the Athens Country Club, and the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.

Brooks loved people and had a good word for all. He founded the Good Guys Social Club and continued it until his death. He had a very quick wit and was a positive thinker. He was generous, very loyal, and was readily available with a joke. He was passionate about the Westminster Wildcats, the Vanderbilt Commodores, and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Brooks is survived by his wife Rosemary, brother Dudley Pearson(Sue), nephews John Pearson(Margi) of Fairhope, Al, and Bryant Pearson(Emily) of Charleston, S.C. He is also survived by his stepdaughters Rosemary Foster of Myrtle Beach, S.C, Margaret Harman of Atlanta, Louise Paxton of Charlotte, N.C., and stepson Charles Jonas of Charlotte, N.C. Other survivors include: great nieces Lila Brooks and Jean Pearson and great nephews Brooks and Harrison Pearson. Step grandchildren include Liza and Lacy Harman and Zachary and Jack Foster. Brooks was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, and his stepdaughter, Mollye Rand.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 14, at 11 a.m. at Patterson’s Spring Hill on Spring St. A reception will be held following the service.
