3 Earthquakes Rattle Gwinnett County In 4 Days: USGS

Three earthquakes have rattled parts of the Atlanta metro in 4 days. The most recent earthquake happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Buford.

BUFORD, GA β€” A 2.3-magnitude earthquake near Buford Sunday is the latest in a round of earthquakes that have shaken parts of Gwinnett County.

The most recent earthquake happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday at 4 kilometers northwest of Buford, according to data from the United States Geological Survey. The quake was a second for the area, with the first occurring around 11:15 p.m. Thursday at a 2.5 magnitude.

The area is near Lake Lanier, 11Alive reported.

Then, an area near Sugar Hill was hit with a 2.1-magnitude earthquake around 1:30 a.m. Friday. It happened 3 kilometers north of Sugar Hill.

A woman told 11Alive her home near Buford Dam was shaken in one of the earthquakes, while a Forsyth County resident reported her home felt the tremble.

The Gwinnett County quakes are in addition to multiple others reported in recent weeks. In early June, one was reported in Tunnel Hill.
