Search Ongoing For Buford Teen Missing Since February: Police

BUFORD, GA β€” Police continue to search for a missing 16-year-old girl they say was last seen in February at her Westoak Court home.

Gwinnett County Police said Tuesday that Asata Amun remains missing after last being seen on Feb. 1. Her father reported her missing, police said.

The day of her disappearance, a doorbell camera captured Amun running out of her front door, police said.

Amun has not yet returned home, and there have been no communication with her since her disappearance, police said. When she left home, police said she did not take any personal belongings with her.

The day before disappearing, police said Amun "was disciplined by administrators at her school." Police did not say what led to the discipline.

"Detectives believe that incident may have provoked her to leave the house on the day she was last seen," police said in a news release.

Amun is described by police as 5-feet-2-inches tall with black hair and brown eyes. Police said she weighs 115 pounds and was last seen wearing a white shirt and black pants.

Her family members, who are hopeful someone will come forward with information on her whereabouts, said she did not talk about running away before leaving, police said.
