Forsyth Co. Hit-And-Run Suspect Charged With Vehicular Homicide

A 70-year-old man died in the hit-and-run Tuesday at Atlanta Highway, near where his nephew was standing and watching the crash.

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — A 48-year-old man accused in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 70-year-old Joaquin Vega Tuesday at Atlanta Highway is facing charges.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office named Agapito Romo Vazquez as the man accused of killing Vega around 8:30 p.m. in front of Vega's nephew. Both men are from Alpharetta.

Authorities said a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle was found in the 6400 block of Atlanta Highway.

Evidence showed the vehicle, which was not identified, had a new windshield, authorities said. They added the driver's side of the vehicle had been cleaned.

Deputies were able to acquire the broken, bloody windshield from the case, authorities said.

Vazquez was charged on suspicion of first-degree homicide by vehicle, felony hit and run and driving without a license, authorities said.

Forsyth County Jail records show he was also charged on suspicion of tampering with evidence. He remained in the jail Thursday.
