GBI To Investigate Death At Forsyth County Jail

CUMMING, GA — An inmate was found unresponsive at the Forsyth County Jail on Nov. 17.

Shortly before 3 a.m., jail deputies went to the medical unit for an unresponsive inmate. The nurse within the jail, along with deputies, performed life-saving measures as EMS was called. A short time after EMS arrival, the inmate was pronounced dead.

The inmate was identified as Rhett Anderson, 63, of Cumming. He was arrested on Nov. 13 on a warrant for failure to appear probation violation, and was housed in the medical unit on detox protocols. Deputies saw Anderson sleeping during the 2:28 a.m. watch tour.

Deputies said Anderson suffered from alcohol abuse, and multiple medical issues.

Anderson was transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Per the sheriff’s office standard procedures, the GBI was requested to conduct an investigation.
