GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — The Gwinnett County Board of Education approved a one-time salary adjustment of $1,000 to over 21,000 active, benefit-eligible employees, including teachers, administrators, and support personnel, according to a news release.

The board’s decision was based on their appreciation for the work employees have done in this “challenging” year, according to the release. The salary adjustment will be paid in a lump sum and included in employees’ December 2021 monthly paycheck.

The extension of this one-time payment to all 21,500 active, benefit-eligible employees, will cost the district approximately $21.5 million. This decision will not restrict funds in future budgets or decrease the year-end budgeted ending fund balance, according to the release.

Superintendent Calvin J. Watts recommended the one-time payments.

“For the third school year, our employees have done a remarkable job of addressing the needs of students during the pandemic,” he said in a news release. “This one-time payment is one way we can say ‘thank you’ for their hard work and their commitment to our students and to this school district.
